Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry talked to media outside the parliament.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said Election Commission of Pakistan should play its constitutional role to end horse trading in Senate elections.
Talking to media outside the parliament in Islamabad on Friday, the Information Minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has already called for cooperation of government and opposition to change procedure of Senate elections.
“Taimur Talpur’s statement has justified Imran Khan’s claim,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Nawab Taimur Talpur admitted in the Sindh Assembly that his party was involved in horse-trading in Senate elections.
“We know about your credibility. I personally know one of your opposition members who sold his vote in the last Senate election. He is still sitting on the opposition benches,” Talpur stated while lashing out at the opposition on fourth day of post-budget session.
Meanwhile, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) MPA Nusrat Seher Abbasi raised objection that the PPP MPA has himself admitted to horse-trading in the House.
A ruckus erupted in Sindh Assembly soon after Talpur’s remarks as opposition’s lawmakers - who were left flabbergasted by the unforeseen disclosure - staged protest and urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar to take suo motu notice and initiate a thorough probe into the matter.
