The district council will also be elected directly.
LAHORE, PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday have agreed on introducing identical local government system, sources privy to development told Dunya News.
As per initial draft, directly elected mayors would be administrative heads of districts in federation, Punjab and KP. Deputy Mayor would be administrator of Tehsils.
Mayors and district chairmen will vie elections on their respective party’s platform.
The district council will also be elected directly in the aforementioned three regions.
Under the new system, the mayors would also have the powers to assess the performance of police and administrative heads and prepared reports in this regard.
However, both provinces are at odds over introduction of new administrative set up in the rural areas. Inside-aware revealed KP desires union council and village council set up in the rural areas. On the other hand, Punjab wants district council and village council set up for the same.
Sources further added that PM would again summon huddle in this regard as the 48-hour deadline will expire.
