Built from scratch, home-made flying machine can travel at speeds of up to 100 km per hour.

On the outskirts of Beijings neighbouring Hebei province, the flying machines built by Chinese aviation enthusiast Zhang Qi won the attention of nearby resident as they soar up into the sky.Zhang, who used to work for a plane manufacturing company, quit his job 10 years ago to fulfill his dream. He built his flying machine from scratch, with designs found mostly on the internet and help from his friends working in aviation industry.Aside from the frame structure, which was bought from a second-hand market in Germany, all the materials were manufactured and acquired in China.The machine relies on ordinary gasoline and can travel at speeds of up to 100 km per hour for as long as three hours. Zhang claimed he flew as high as 4,000 metres on the machines he made.
