Bangladesh detains 128 refugees fleeing Myanmar

Bangladeshi officials say they have intercepted an additional 128 Rohingya refugees fleeing sectarian violence in western Myanmar, and that they will be detained and sent back .Border Guard Bangladesh agency Commander Lt. Col. Zahid Hasan says the refugees mostly women and children arrived at an island in the Bay of Bengal by five boats from Myanmars troubled Rakhine state on Monday.Violence in Rakhine between Buddhists and minority Rohingya Muslims has left at least 12 people dead and hundreds of homes burned since June 8.Some 2,000 Rohingyas have tried to flee to Bangladesh, but the country has refused to accept.Hasan says authorities are providing food and water for the refugees, and will send them back to Myanmar at a convenient time.
