Aman also calls for a new world financial “architecture” to make markets less volatile.Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman announced his country’s support for the Palestinian application for full UN membership as a state at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.Aman expressed frustration at years of negotiations that have yielded no results.“We support the application of the Palestinians to the United Nations and welcome the readiness of both parties to hold talks on the basis of the existing international legal framework. In this connection, Malaysia fully supports the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people for an independent State of Palestine, based on the two-state solution, taking into account the security concerns of both parties, he said in his address on the last day of the annual UN General Assembly.In a dramatic move last Friday (September 23), Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas submitted a U.N. membership application for a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital, despite strong opposition from Israel and the United States, which say Middle East peace can come only through Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
