Punjab load shedding protests spiral up

Protests against power load shedding continued in different cities on Sunday.

As per details, protests have also been reported from Faisalabad, Lahore and other cities on the second consecutive day.In Lahore, a large number of people gathered at Bund Road and Allama Iqbal Town Main Boulevard in protest against hours-long unscheduled load shedding. They burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the government.A large number workers of Faisalabad industries gathered at the main avenue, torched tyres and blocked Nehr Wala, Jhang and Smandri Roads. They also shouted slogans against the government.Protestors were of the view that they were facing load shedding for more than 18 hours a day. This situation has multiplied their suffering as they have no activities and opportunities to earn livelihood. Their families are compelled to die of starvation and hunger.The angry protestors also pulled down signboards.SSP Operation Sardiq Doggar reached there for dialogue but did not dare to discuss in the face of angry mob.On Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also criticised the federal government and said that Punjab is being targeted with load shedding for up to 20 hours a day.On the other hand, Ministry of Water and Power has said that current crisis of load shedding is due to annual renovation and mechanical faults with the power plants and it would be resolved within 48 hours.
