The Lahore High Court on Thursday has ruled out the possibility of repatriating Raymond Davis before the end of his court trial.

Hearing a petition regarding the diplomatic immunity of US citizen Raymond Davis, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry remarked that the case is linked with the diplomatic immunity of the arrest. Until the federal government does not make its stance clear whether it is awarding immunity to Davis or not, the court proceedings cannot be moved, the chief justice said. The lawyer of the Punjab government said that Davis had killed two Pakistanis and he did not deserve the immunity. He said that the US consulate issued two contradictory statements to the police about Davis. That is why his diplomatic status is unclear, he added. No lawyer appeared in defense of the accused and Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malik sought time, so that the government could review the matter. The court granted 25 days to the government and adjourned the hearing till 14 March.
