We will fight against all obstacles in the way of democracy, PM Nawaz tells NA

Nawaz Sharif said demanding accountability of the government is the right of the people.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – As political deadlock persists between PAT, PTI protestors and the government, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that those who try to derail democracy and constitution will be held accountable.

Addressing the National Assembly, the Prime Minister said his government represent mandate of 200 million people in the house.

“Almost entire parliament voted in favour of democratic process and we will fight against all obstacles in the way of democracy,” he said.

PM Nawaz lauded all segments of society for supporting democracy. He thanked the parliament for overwhelming support for the democratic set-up.

Nawaz Sharif said demanding accountability of the government is the right of the people and the opposition but insisted that he will never betray confidence of the House.

He said ongoing political turmoil has damaged national economy and stock markets have suffered because of the ongoing protests.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that journey for strengthening democracy and ensuring supremacy of the parliament will continue. He said the government will also ensure speedy progress and welfare of the people.

Referring to Pakistan Tereek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s protest, PM Nawaz said he went to hospital to inquire after Imran Khan’s health when he met an accident during the election campaign. The Prime Minister said Imran Khan had felicitated him over the election victory and accepted the election results.

He said Imran Khan had assured to support every positive move by the government.
