Roy called for the intelligence agencies to watch the people that attended the funeral
(Web Desk) – Tathagata Roy, the governor of Indian state Tripura, on Friday sparked controversy by labeling massive crowd of Muslims that attended the funeral of Yakub Memon ‘potential terrorists’.
Roy called for the intelligence agencies to watch the people that attended the funeral.

Memon, convicted for involvement in 1993 Mumbai bombings, was hanged till death yesterday. His hanging has clearly divided the country’s opinion into two with rights groups questioning the validity of the execution.
The massive crowd comprising thousands of people that attended Memon’s funeral is a reflection of just how divided the country is over this matter.
A divide even acknowledged by the Indian media.

The rampant and provocative Islamophobia in comments on Indian news websites and social media space is also alarming but it is unclear at this point what the authorities are doing about it.
