CAIRO (AP) -- A security official says three Egyptians, including two with British citizenship, were detained after a man told police he overheard them discussing ways to destabilize the country.

The Egyptian official said Sunday that a brother and sister, and their cousin, were apprehended at a Cairo metro station the night before after a passenger told police they were speaking in English about burning homes and businesses on the anniversary of the January 2011 uprising which led to the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters, said the three denied the accusations. He said the case has been referred to prosecutors.
