In 2018 only, more than 1600 complaints of online crimes and offenses in KP were lodged

(WebDesk/Dunyanews) - Cyber Crime becomes a nuisance in Khyber PakhtunKha as well. Approximately 1600 complaints have been received so far in a year only. FIA officials struggle hard in seeking the data.

After 2000, Key changes and challenges were emerged in the field of information technology. With an increase in the use of internet and thousands of apps associated with the internet, more and more complications pave way to the common people with the implication of cyber crimes.

Cyber crime refers to any criminal act dealing with computers and networks.


Cyber crime refers to any criminal act dealing with computers and networks. Additionally, cyber crime also includes traditional crimes conducted through the Internet. One among such problems is the scamming, blackmailing and looting money online.

In the first ten months of 2018, more than 1600 complaints of online crimes and offenses in Khyber pakhtunKha were lodged with the cyber crime wing of federal investigative agency. Interestingly, most of the suspects of the cyber crime in these cases appeared to be in relation with each other.

National Response Centre for Cyber Crime (NR3C) - FIA is a law enforcement agency dedicated to fight cyber crime and is another mandate of the FIA, primarily to deal with technology based crimes in Pakistan. It is the only unit of its kind in the country and in addition to the directly received complaints also assists other law enforcement agencies in their own cases.

While talking to Dunya News, Additional Director of Cyber Crime Wing of FIA, more or less 1600 complaints had been lodged. Out of them more than 400 were completed as per their standard procedure and some 80 offenders were taken into custody. Many of them were convicted whereas many are sentenced with imprisonment in cyber crimes.

According to the officials of federal investigative unit, a lack of appropriate agreement among the countries becomes major obstacle in inquiring about the details of the suspects in cyber crimes.

Assistant Director of cyber crimes cell said that if there would signed any mutual assistance treaty with other countries, can reduce the rate of cyber crime cent percent due to an ease in access to the data.

Cybercrime has increased manifold in Khyber PakhtunKha.To deal with the threatening increase in the cyber crimes in Khyber PakhtunKha, FIA cyber circles are established in Abbot bad and D.I.Khan along with Peshawar.

In 2016, Prevention of Electronic Crime Law was promulgated to tackle the growing incidents of cyber offences and is strictly being implemented. Many of the cyber crime culprits have been taken to the task under the cyber crime law.

According to the PEC2016 law, the offender can be charged with the sentences from three to seven months and can be fined from few hundreds of thousands to a crore sum of money. To curtail the annoying and hideous cyber crimes, along with the part played by the security agencies, each and every individual should try to avoid such situation which may land them into hot waters under the prevention of electronic crime law 2016.
