Senator stresses up-gradation of sports facilities

Sports complexes have not been upgraded despite being granted large sums of money by the government

 

ISLAMABAD (Online): Senator Farah Aqil Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial coordination has emphasized the need for up-gradation and proper maintenance of sports facilities at sport complex Islamabad. She was expressing these views in meeting with Admiral (R ) Ahmed Tasneem in her office here today.

 

Admiral (R ) Ahmed Tasneem told the Senator that as a taxpayer and senior citizen of Pakistan it is dire need that the sport complex facilities should be utilized for their actual purpose and not be mismanaged by any person.

 

He apprised the Senator that various facilities at sports complex have not been upgraded inspite of being granted large sums of money by the government. He said that Astro turf which is found only in very few places in Pakistan including sports complex is being misused which can lead to its deterioration.

 

Talking about bad condition of washrooms and taps in sports complex, he said that these were not maintained and upgraded. He told the Senator that swimming pool of sports complex is not maintained properly and washrooms close by are in pathetic condition.

 

He said that a sports committee should be formed with representation of senior citizens along with other stakeholders for bringing change for betterment of this important sports facility. He said that there is dire need to have more sports facilities introduced along with effective maintenance and up-gradation of previous facilities.

 

The Senator assured Admiral (R ) Ahmed Tasneem that she will herself take a serious note of these irregularities and will ask the relevant authorities to take proper measures in this regard.
