ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday against the federal ministers for ridiculing the verdict and jury of the special court in matter pertainting to former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf.

The petition was filed seeking proceedings against various federal ministers on the basis of contempt of court. It read that not only the verdict of the special court but Justice Waqar Seth was also criticized, while hateful statements were made against him at the press conference which were held on Dec 17 and 18.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar and Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Anwar Mansoor Khan were named in the petition.

The petition further read that the court was insinuated while the judiciary was smeared. It added that no person has the power to scandalize or malign a judge or law on the basis of a verdict. “Those holding public and government offices committed contempt of court and leveled baseless allegations against the learned judge, and used impolite words against him,” stated petition, adding that unprecedented effort was made to create chaos between institutions.

The defendants would be tried under Article 204 whereas the petitioners have requested that the defendants “should be disqualified from holding a public office. “The government people’s support to a proclaimed offender is against the law,” the petition read.
