LHC seeks govt's response in petition against JUI-F's Azadi March
The petitioner maintained that JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman intended to topple the government.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought a response from the government while hearing a petition filed against the planned ‘Azadi March’ by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) for allegedly creating a private militia and using children of madrassas for political motives.
Justice Ameer Bhatti took up the application against the anti-government agitation, possible sit-in and protests in Islamabad, to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan from power.
The petitioner maintained that JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman intended to topple the government by staging sit-in in the federal capital.
The petition further contended that JUI-F has established a private force (Ansar-ul-Islam) and has been using innocent children of religious seminaries for his political motives against the government. It said the respondent party had also been spreading hatred against a democratically elected government through provocative speeches, which could cause chaos in the country.
The court was told that a constitutional government could not be abolished without completing five years. Abolishing the government unconstitutionally will be violation of Article 17 A-2.
Meanwhile, the court ordered to unite all the relevant petitions against the JUI-F, and adjourned the hearing till Oct 29 and directed the law officer to come up with instructions from the government.
The petition moved by a citizen submitted that no private organisation was allowed to function as a military organisation as it was an offence under Private Military Organisations (Abolition and Prohibition) Act, 1974.
