"Only for collecting 20 per cent revenue, 22,000 people have been hired."

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Thursday grilled the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) while hearing an appeal filed by an employee of the bureau concerning service matters.

“Put an end to FBR […] and you will see how much money is collected,” Justice Gulzar Ahmad said, adding that the bureau was burdening the country.

“Trillions of rupees are lost every year […] what kind of recovery FBR’s army of 22,000 people can make,” he remarked, while pointing out that 80 per cent of the [total] tax collected was through indirect means.

“Only for collecting 20 per cent revenue, 22,000 people have been hired,” the judge stated regretfully and angrily.
