ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A shocking scandal of financial irregularities during Pakistan People Party’s (PPP) tenure of the government has been surfaced as a record of old currency notes of Rs500 amounting to whopping Rs4300.75 billion suddenly disappeared.

This has caused a major problem for authorities who were tasked to perform audit of the scam.

According to a report issued by the auditor general, from 1985 to 2012, 1.3 billion currency notes of Rs500 were printed.

However, the record of only 430 million currency notes till the 2012 deadline has been found. The authorities involved in the matter could not find the record of remaining 870 million currency notes.

Audit officials have expressed fear that trillions of rupee notes could be used in counterfeit currency exchange.

The office of the Auditor General has asked for bringing to justice those who were responsible of such incompetence or alleged corruption.
