Govt revises foreign currency limitations for passengers travelling abroad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – For curbing money laundering, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a new travel advisory regarding the amount of foreign currency the passengers can carry while travelling abroad from Pakistan.

According to the FBR advisory, passengers aged 18 or more are not allowed to carry more than $10,000 (or an equivalent amount in other foreign currencies) on a single visit.

Under the new rules, all travellers leaving Pakistan have been restricted from carrying more than Rs3,000.

The new advisory includes information about restrictions on carrying currency exchange and the prohibited goods.

Meanwhile, the Customs Department has begun advertising new advisory at airports across the country.

Similarly, passengers can carry maximum of $60,000 per year in multiple visits.

Moreover, travelers with the age of less than 5 years are restricted to carry $1,000 maximum, whereas passengers aged between 5-18 years of age can carry up to $5,000 on a single trip and $30,000 on multiple trips per year.

A ban has also been imposed on carrying gold, silver, diamonds, platinum and jewellery in large quantities.

Antiques and archaeological artifacts, drugs and other substances which can cause intoxication, literature against Pakistan’s national interest, poison or poisonous chemicals have also been prohibited from being carried.

Passengers are required to provide animal quarantine certification to check in their pets.

The authorities have also established CRC cells for registering complaints at the airports across the country.
