Abbasi said NAB chairman was being blackmailed to hide governments corruption

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday demanded to constitute a Parliamentary Committee to probe into the recent scandal relating to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Friday, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the PML-N has strong reservations over the anti-graft watchdog but it still want justice to be delivered in NAB chairman’s scandal.

He said that the PML-N will move a resolution in the National Assembly seeking to constitute a parliamentary committee to probe into the scandal.

Abbasi went on to say that the NAB chairman was being blackmailed to hide government’s corruption, adding that the whole issue has links to the Prime Minister House.

The PML-N senior vice president said that it will also expose that on whose instructions Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif was kept in custody for 70 days.

Earlier, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif said his party would remain neutral on the recent scandal relating to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

In his tweet, the PML-N president said that his party would stay out of the recent NAB Chairman issue, adding that our viewpoint on NAB is principled and we will keep voicing our concerns on all forums. 

“PML-N has nothing to do with anybody’s private life and will stick to its political and legal narrative!”, he continued in his tweet.


NAB dismissal 


National Accountability Bureau had dismissed report aired by a private TV channel regarding Chairman NAB Justice (r) Javed Iqbal. In a statement, NAB termed report of a private TV channel ‘fake, fabricated and contrary to the facts.’

NAB spokesperson informed that 42 first investigation reports (FIR) have been registered against the group of blackmailers. He added that two of them have already been arrested and reference was filed against them in this regard.

The spokesperson while debunking all claims against the Bureau s chairman, labeled it an attempt to blackmail the institute over ongoing corruption investigations against the organization.  

A local tv aired the audio and video clips of his alleged inappropriate interactions/conversation with a female.
