PM Imran welcomes CJP's vow to punish fake witnesses

Journey towards truth is a journey towards Naya Pakistan, said Imran Khan.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday welcomed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa’s statement on punishing those who give false testimony.

In a Twitter p[ost, the premier said, “Journey towards truth is a journey towards Naya Pakistan,” adding that nations become great because they have a higher value system.

He further stated, “Muslim civilization’s foundation was State of Medina with truthfulness as the core value.”

Earlier, CJP Khosa said, “All the witnesses should beware. The entire testimony will disregarded if any part of it is found to be false.”

“While taking oath, the witness says that may Allah’s wrath is sent over him if he lies. Maybe that time has arrived,” he added.

“We are ending the false testimony culture. As per law, if an accused can be sentenced to death in any case then a false witness can be awarded life imprisonment,” he declared.

His remarks came after hearing the case of false witness ASI Khizar Hayat.
