The brother of deceased Khalil filed a petition in the court.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the Sahiwal tragedy has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC).

The brother of deceased Khalil filed a petition in the court requesting to annul the JIT and form judicial commission over the incident.

Jalil has made Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Punjab Inspector General (IG) Amjad Javed Saleemi parties in his plea.

The JIT formed by Punjab government comprises of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI) officers and is being headed by Additional IG Syed Ijaz Shah.

The team will submit its fact finding report to the Chief Minister declaring CTD officials responsible for the incident.

Meanwhile, JIT inquired four CTD officers including Safdar, Ramzan, Saifullah and Hasnain during which theyrefused to open fire on the car ‘first’ and instead shot at it in retaliation.

On Tuesday, Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Rehman Malik categorically rejected the JIT formed by the government to probe into the incident, and asserted to hold a judicial inquiry to probe into the killing of the three members of the same family and their friend.

Several other political leaders have also expressed reservation over the JIT demanding to form a judicial commission.

It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage boy in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
