PML-N submits bill in NA seeking creation of Bahawalpur, South Punjab province
The bill demands to form National Commission for New Provinces.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday submitted constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly for the creation of a South Punjab province and the restoration of the Bahawalpur province in Punjab.
PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanveer, Rana Sanaullah Khan and Abdur Rehman Kanju tendered the bill to NA secretary bearing their signatures.
The bill maintains that Bahawalpur province will be based on present administrative division whereas South Punjab will be comprised of Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan divisions.
The total number of NA seats in Bahawalpur province will be 39 including 31 general, seven for females and one for non-Muslim.
On the other hand, NA seats for South Punjab province have been fixed at 80 in which 64 are general, 14 for females and two for non-Muslims.
The bill suggests amendment in article-154 and article-1 adding the words ‘creation of Bahawalpur, South Punjab province’ and has been titled ‘Constitutional (amendment) Act, 2019’.
Following the amendment, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan Division will be excluded from the boundaries of Punjab province.
The bill demands to form National Commission for New Provinces to determine the precincts and other matters.
“Principle seats of Supreme Court and High Court should also be produced by amendment in Article-175 of the constitution,” it adds.
The bill also proposes that total number of seats in Balochistan Assembly will be 65, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 145, Sindh 168 and Punjab 252.
