Senate Standing Committee on Interior seeks final report on Sahiwal incident

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday sought the final report on Sahiwal incident.

Chairman Rehman Malik headed the meeting which was attended by Punjab IG Amjad Saleemi and other higher police officials.

The participants prayed for the victims of Sahiwal incident.

Malik while expressing sorrow over the tragedy maintained that the committee has to submit its investigative report in the House which will also propose measures for preventing such incidents in the future.

Punjab Home Secreatry told that Zeeshan was the target of the operation.

Punjab IG asserted that the CTD officials were immediately arrested when it became clear that Khalil’s family was innocent.

“All the officers of CTD have been made an officer on special duty (OSD). All the facts will be revealed to the nation after inquiry,” he said.

Punjab IG went on to say that CTD was following an extremely dangerous group. “JIT will collect all the evidences related to Zeeshan. This tragedy weakened CTD but many significant goals have been achieved with its help,” he notified.

Malik said that the standing committee will await the final report and will review it later. “Police and law enforcement agencies are going through a difficult phase. We appreciate their sacrifices. We want an end to tragedies like Sahiwal. Punjab government is responsible for the take care of Khalil’s children,” he declared.

Despite summoning, Zeeshan’s relatives were not produced before the committee.

Chairman committee clarified that as the entire incident in under investigation therefore the family’s stance has not been heard.
