A meeting headed by the Chief Minister was held in Punjab Civil Secretariat.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday reprimanded police officers after they failed to satisfy him over Sahiwal incident.

A meeting headed by the Chief Minister was held in Punjab Civil Secretariat. It was attended administrative officers including Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police and Special Branch.

Buzdar directed to determine the CTD officials responsible for the deaths and award them exemplary punishment after conducting fair probe.

The meeting was briefed that CTD carried out the operation on an important tip-off but took no steps for the security of common man.

“CTD officials neither signaled the car to stop nor checked the presence of women and children. Adopting precautionary measures and implementation on protocol could have avoided major damage,” the meeting was told.

Innocent lives were lost due to haste of CTD officials, the briefing maintained.

Earlier, while responding to a question of media over Sahiwal incident, Buzdar emphasized that the government cannot hang anyone without conducting proper probe and in hurry.

He maintained, “The time to submit the report will end on Tuesday. Wait and watch what action we will take following the report.”

It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage boy in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
