SAHIWAL (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar on Sunday said that justice will be ensured in the incident pertaining to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) encounter in Sahiwal on Saturday that triggered a nationwide outcry.

While talking to media in Sahiwal that Joint Investigation Team, constituted to probe into Sahiwal incident, has been directed to conduct a transparent investigation and submit its report within seventy two hours.

CM Buzdar said that the involved CTD officers were arrested and ensured that he himself will monitor the investigation of the case.

He also informed that a joint investigation team was formed to probe into the matter. The JIT comprising Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI) officers will be headed by Additional IG Syed Ijaz Shah. The team will submit report to Punjab IG in three days (73 hours).

Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police also accompanied the Chief Minister.

After his arrival at Sahiwal, he visited the hospital to inquire about the health of the injured children of the incident, gave them gifts and said that the government will financially take care of these children. He also visited the relatives of the victims of the incident.

Earlier on Saturday, the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage boy in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
