PM orders stern action against hooligans involved in vandalism
Legal action would also be taken by Cyber Wing of Federal Investigation Agency.
LAHORE/KARACHI/ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Taking strong exception to wanton violence by hooligans in the recent sit-ins and protest rallies, Prime Minister [PM] Imran Khan on Sunday has taken notice of the situation and directed Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar and federal ministers to initiate stern legal action against all those involved in pillage and destruction of public and private properties.
As per details garnered, PM Khan directed officials concerned to not spare miscreants involved in sabotaging peace and normalcy. Expressing exasperation over physical abuse of citizens, Khan ordered to arrest all those involved in violent activities during the course of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) sit-ins.
Legal action would also be taken by Cyber Wing of Federal Investigation Agency and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority against all those involved in spreading inflammatory content through digital platforms.
Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi on Saturday said that the government has decided to launch crackdown against protesters who vandalized the public property and injured innocent citizens in the garb of peaceful protests against the Supreme Court decision in Asia Bibi case.
Responding to a question regarding the government s agreement with Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) protesters, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry termed the move a firefighting.
In his interview with British Broadcasting Company (BBC), he said that this is a temporary solution to the problem but we need to come up with a permanent solution.
The minister said that we need to take steps against extremism, adding that the government was committed to resolving problems.
"We need to take steps against extremism, we need to take steps against such kind of violent protesters and we need to come up with a permanent solution. Right now this is not a cure. This is firefighting, what we are doing. The cure is the real thing and our government is committed to the cure."
TLP initiated countrywide sit-ins and protest rallies after Supreme Court (SC) acquitted Asia Bibi in blasphemy case.
