Opposition assures govt of support in prevailing situation

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A delegation of government representatives met Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to brief them on the current situation.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak said the government delegation including Fawad Chaudhry, Ali Muhammad Khan, Tariq Bashir Cheema and Shireen Mazai briefed the opposition parties on the current situation in the country.

He said all opposition parties had a unanimous view that the issue should be addressed, adding that the government did not want to resort to violence against the protesters.

The delegation members during their meeting with Bilawal Bhutto and Khursheed took the opposition figures into confidence on the issue, saying the government had formed a committee to hold negotiations with the demonstrators.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry welcomed opposition’s stance on the issue and said the meetings with Bilawal Bhutto and Shehbaz Sharif were “promising developments”.

“Government and opposition have appointed focal persons. We will try to come up with a joint strategy in order to tackle the protests. Every move will be taken in consultation with parliament,” he added.
