NA-108: LHC bars ECP from issuing Farrukh Habib's success notification
LHC has issued notice to Election Commission and other relative parties seeking reply on August 7.
LAHROE (Dunya News) - Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday halted the victory notification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Farrukh Habib.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Abid Sher Ali has submitted appeal in LHC once again, seeking vote recount in NA-108 constituency.
LHC has issued notice to Election Commission and other relative parties seeking reply on August 7.
Abid Sher Ali’s plea has charged Farrukh Habib with allegations of election rigging claiming that a counterfeit forum was made and polling agents were sent out of counting hall.
The plea also demanded the court not to issue notification of Farrukh Habib’s victory till the final verdict of the case.
PTI candidate retain NA-108 seat against Abid Sher Ali after recount
It is pertinent here to mention that on Thursday, August 2, PTI candidate Farrukh Habib had retained NA-108 constituency in Faisalabad after he defeated PML-N’s Abid Sher Ali in recount by a margin of 1,201 votes.
According to revised results, Habib had bagged 112,029 votes while Abid Sher Ali secured 110,828 votes in the election for Faisalabad’s NA-108 constituency.
Earlier, the recounting was ordered on the plea of PML-N candidate Abid Sher Ali who secured 111,529 votes and stood second while PTI’s Farrukh Habib bagged 112,740 votes.
On July 25, millions of Pakistanis voted to elect a new government and prime minister in a peaceful elections held in free, fair and transparent manner.
Around 800,000 police and military forces were stationed at more than 85,000 polling stations across the country as the voting took place.
Wednesday’s election was only the second democratic transition of power in Pakistan’s 70-year coup-studded history.
Pakistan is a country of approximately 207 million people, out of which the number of registered voters are about 106 million.
The voting for the Pakistan election, which took place between 8:00 am local time (8:30 am IST) and 6:00 pm (6:30 pm IST), saw more than 3,000 candidates contesting for 272 general seats of the National Assembly, while some 8,000 candidates ran for 577 general seats of the four provincial assemblies - Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
