PTI to nominate Pervaiz Elahi as Speaker Punjab Assembly
Previously, Pervaiz Elahi was elected as the speaker of Punjab Assembly in 1997.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday has suggested to make leader of Pakistan Muslim league-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as Speaker of Punjab Assembly.
Sources privy to the situation said that PTI has also informed Pervaiz Elahi about the decision and he has expressed his willingness to become Speaker of Punjab Assembly.
Elahi had already announced to retain seat of Punjab Assembly while he would relinquish both seats of National Assembly.
During a meeting in Bani Gala, he pledged support to him PTI Chief Imran Khan in Punjab and overtly rejected the stance that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) enjoys majority in the province.
He went on to say that he had never practiced politics of blackmailing and would never do so in the future.
On the other hand, PTI has claimed to have gained support of 180 MPAs-elect. However, the final decision regarding Punjab rule will be taken by Imran Khan soon.
It is pertinent to mention here that previously, Pervaiz Elahi was elected as the speaker of Provincial Assembly of Punjab in 1997 where he remained until 1999.
