PPP, PTI to flex political muscle in Karachi today

Both the parties are excited to show their political strength in Karachi.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) are set to stage power show in the provincial capital Karachi today (Saturday).

PPP will hold their public gathering in Jinnah garden situated adjacent to Quaid’s mausoleum. The rally is being held to pay tribute to May 12, 2007 martyrs.

A 120-foot long stage has been prepared whereas party banners and flags have been placed in the surrounding of the ground.

Sindh Chief Minister Muard Ali Shah visited the venue late night and reviewed the preparations. PPP leader Saeed Ghani claims that their power show will sliminate all signs of PTI from Karachi.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 4pm and will be addressed by various party leaders including PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto.

On the other hand, PTI is also geared up to flex their political muscle in Karachi alongside PPP. The preparations for the rally are in the final phase which will take place in a ground positioned next to Aladdin park on Rashid Minhas road.

A 60-foot long, 40-foot wide and 60-foot high stage has been prepared for the party leaders. Chairs have also been placed in the venue for the party workers.

PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh says that they will conduct such an exemplary power show. Female workers maintained that they have completed all the preparations and will make the rally memorable.

PTI workers have urged the Karachiites to come forward for transforming the city into a better place.


PPP, PTI clash


Both the parties had earlier fell into a clash with each other at the Hakeem Saeed Ground in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, the venue for May 12 public meetings announced by both parties.

Hakeem Saeed Ground turned into a battle field as PPP and PTI workers pelted stones at each other and also resorted to attack with sticks and iron rods. Angry PPP activists also set ablaze PTI camp at the venue.

Several vehicles and motorcycles were damaged as protesters pelted stones. Two vehicles and dozens of motorcycles were also torched. Scores of people were also injured. Protesters also resorted to aerial firing.

The incident followed condemnation from leaders of both the parties while were cases were also registered.

However; the parties later backed off from the venue and announced that they will now hold their rallies at different places in order to maintain peace in Karachi.
