(Dunya News) – To raise awareness on how to protect mountains from environmental pollution while preserving their natural beauty, the International Mountain Day is observed around the globe on December 11.

While the Kashmir region is well-known across the world for having the most beautiful waterfalls and rivers, its magnificent mountain range is also one of its kind.

The huge, green mountains with waterfalls and lakes adding to its splendour make Kashmir beautiful. But unfortunately the authorities seem to be doing nothing to preserve the beauty.

Owing to tree culling in the region’s forests, not only has the beauty of Kashmir deteriorated, but the mountains that are home to 70 percent of the country’s water reserves have also been affected with the melting of glaciers.

According to experts, the government needs to plant new trees in the area in order to preserve its natural beauty to save the magnificent mountains, and to help maintain an environmental balance.

Not only has nature blessed Balochistan with endless beauty, but the mountains that add to the province’s splendour are rich in minerals as well. While reserves of minerals including coal, granite, chromite and gypsum have been discovered within these mountains, huge reservoirs of gold and copper have also been found in Chaghi’s area of Saindak.

While mountains have always played their part in making our landscape beautiful, it is our duty to protect their splendour by aiming to preserve their magnificence.
