Over 2000 unregistered seminaries shut down in Sindh

57 seminaries involved in suspicious activities have also been closed

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The geotagging of seminaries (Madrassas) has been completed in Sindh and a comprehensive report regarding the issue was compiled.

According to the report, more than 2000 unregistered and illegal seminaries have been closed, of which, 97 were found to be involved in suspicious activities and 57 of such seminaries were also closed.



The report indicated the existence of 7,444 registered madrassas across Sindh with 5,47,000 students currently enrolled in them out of which 818 students are foreigners.

In Karachi, 3,733 madrassas are operating out of which 623 have been closed. In Hyderabad, 910 madrassas were closed leaving behind 1,291 seminaries in operation. 750 madrassas are in operation in Mirpurkhas after shutting down of 281 seminaries. In Sukkhur, 420 seminaries have been shut down leaving behind only 1,256 seminaires and in Larkana, 1,037 seminaries are currenlty operating after shutting down of 75.
