ECP dismisses Imran Khan's reference to de-seat Ayesha Gulalai
Three out of five members of the bench favoured Ayesha Gulalai while two opposed her.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s reference against Ayesha Gulalai to de-seat her from the National Assembly.
According to details, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) announced a split decision in which three out of five members of the bench favoured Ayesha Gulalai while two opposed her.
Gulalai will continue serving as member of NA, the bench continued.
Talking to media after the hearing, Ayesha Gulalai said that I had stated earlier that I would accept the verdict of ECP. She said that Imran Khan has always spread anarchy in the country, adding that Imran Khan threatens courts when verdict comes against him.
She further accused PTI chief of having links with Taliban.
Residents of constituency NA-4 have boycotted by-poll, she continued.
Earlier, Imran Khan’s lawyer Sikandar Mehmand told ECP that Ayesha Gulalai participated in prime minister election against party policy therefore, she should be de-seated. He said that Gulalai was not elected but was placed on a special seat by Imran Khan.
He continued that Ayesha Gulalai also attended party meeting on July 29 when Chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid was nominated by PTI for PM election. In the meeting, Imran Khan directed every member to support Sheikh Rashid in the election but she didn’t. He said that Gulalai resigned from party membership and participated in PM election against the policy after which she was issued show cause.
The issure erupted after Ayesha Gulalai revealed that the honour of PTI female members is not safe from PTI chairman Imran Khan and his gang. She said that Imran Khan sent ‘indecent’ text messages to female members of the party.
She disclosed that the first message she received from Imran Khan was in October 2013 and many other female members also received those messages. She said that Imran Khan keeps Blackberry phone and asks the female members of the party to also carry Blackberry so that messages couldn’t be traced.
“The messages contained words that nobody’s honour would tolerate. They can be retrieved by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)”, she said.
