Sindh government decides to call an all parties conference (APC) on census 2017 results

KARACHI (Dunya News) – After Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Sindh government has also rejected provisional census results, reported Dunya News.

The Sindh government on Monday announced to call an all parties conference (APC) to decide the future plan of action on the issue. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Ahmed Khoro said that showing less population in census results is a conspiracy. Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) lawmaker said that this was done to make sure Sindh didn’t get a raise in its share in National Finance Commission (NFC) award

“Sindh will fight for it rights, our concerns have not been cleared,” he said. He said that Sindh government had demanded that a photocopy of the census form should be given at every house.

Karachiites refute controversial census result

Karachiites have spoken up on the shortcomings of 6th Population Census 2017 on social media. Provisional results of census released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) show that Karachi’s total population is 14.91 million. This is a 62% increase from the 1998 figure of 9.339 million.

In comparison, Lahore’s population went up by a whopping 116%. Some of the posts on Twitter warned of the damaging effects of these controversial results.

Raza Haroon, who is the secretary general of Pak Sarzameen party was bemused by the census results.
