Lahore in grip of grief after Ferozepur Road blast

26 people have so far lost their lives in the tragic incident.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore, the city of gardens, has once again been jolted by the terrorism, and the city is in the grip of grief after a blast took place near Arfa Karim Towers at Ferozepur Road on Monday (yesterday).

26 people have so far lost their lives in the tragic incident, and dead bodies of 22 persons have been handed over to the relatives after carrying their post mortem. Three dead bodies have still not been identified.




58 persons sustained injuries in the blast, and are fighting for their lives at different hospitals of Lahore. 34 wounded are admitted to General Hospital, 13 to Ittefaq Hospital, and 10 to Services Hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif also visited the patients to inquire about their health. People are also placing flowers outside the hospitals to show solidarity with the injured.

Nine police officers were martyred in the blast, and have been laid to rest amidst sobbing atmosphere. The officers who could not survive this deadly attack included sub-inspector Riaz, ASI Fayyaz Ahmad, constables Moazzam Ali, Abid Ali, Ghulam Murtaza, Ali Raza, Sajid Ali, Umair Ghani and Muhammad Qasim. Two of them, Ali Raza and Ghulam Murtaza, were brothers.




According to the police officials, the head of suicide attacker has been recovered, and is sent to Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory. The initial report that was sent to Punjab CM states that 10-12 kilograms of explosive material was used in the attack along with ball bearings, nuts and bolts.

On the other hand, police conducted search operation at Lahore’s Badami Bagh, and in the areas adjacent to Lari Adda, and arrested seven suspicious men. The Ferozepur Road was also opened for traffic late night.
