Weapons worth millions missing from police warehouses: report

Inter-departmental probe into the matter is underway.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya)- Inter-departmental probe has been launched against two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), four inspectors and 20 employees as local and imported weapons worth millions have gone missing from warehouses of Punjab Police, reported Roznama Dunya on Friday.

Sources privy to development told our correspondent Beretta guns, Black Eagle shotguns, Ruger pistol, Zigana pistols, Russian Kalashnikov, US pump-action and huge number of bullets have been stolen from police s warehouses in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi and other cities.

Former Inspector General (IG) of Police Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera had assigned task to related divisional commissioners (DCs), regional police officers (RPOs) and superintendents of Police (SPs) to comprehensively probe the matter at earliest.

As per details available, ex-SP Lahore Jamat Ali Bukhari launched inquiry against police officials Shakeel, Maqsood and Shabbir during which it was unearthed that aforementioned officials had sold weapons worth millions to arm dealers in Lahore.

Likewise, Faisalabad DIG Bilal Siddique is heading probe against seven policemen involved in selling arms to private dealers.

DIG Bilal Siddique, when contacted, told correspondent that severe complains have been received by police department in this regard.

“Those involved have been suspended and cases have been lodged against them,” informed Siddique.
