Sindh for stern punishment against acid attackers, ban on dowry

Strict laws should be introduced to uproot rotten practice of dowry from society.

KARACHI (Roznama Dunya) - Sindh women development department has prepared a legal draft against dowry practice and acid attacks.

This was informed by Irum Khalid, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister on Women Development on Friday.

Sindh CM has approved the draft and it would be soon tabled in provincial assembly, articulated Iram Khalid.

Sindh CM’s special assistance said strict laws should be introduced to uproot rotten practice of dowry from society. Khalid turned down possibility of economic uplift without fortifying rights of country’s 51pc population.

A red line has been drawn against acid attacks as suggested bill proposes exemplary punishments for acid throwers. Bill is also aimed at slapping ban on unregistered shops selling acids, pronounced Khalid.

It may be recalled that K-P has banned dowry practice and has restrained families not to make expenditures above Rs75000 in terms of marriage expenses including ceremonies of walima and barat whereas maximum amount of gift given to bride by her parents, family members or other relatives can’t exceed Rs10000 mark.
