A five-member SC bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed hearing of the Panama Papers case.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – While hearing the Panama Papers case today (Tuesday), Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that the Supreme Court will summon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif if required.

Justice Khosa gave these remarks in response to Jamaat-e-Islami s (JI) counsel Advocate Taufiq Asif.

While concluding his arguments, Advocate Asif told the five-member bench of the apex court that he suspects the London flats were bought by selling the Gulf Steel Mills and asked the court to order Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to present himself for cross-examination in this regard.

Justice Khosa told the advocate that the bench would decide on the matter after hearing the arguments of all the petitioners.

We will summon Nawaz Sharif if there is a need for it, he remarked.

Earlier today, the apex court expressed resentment after Advocate Taufiq Asif made repeated references to a past case.

Advocate Asif insisted before the five-member Supreme Court bench that the decision in the Zaffar Ali Shah case had said that the London flats belong to the Sharif family.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan told the lawyer that he had "made a mockery of the case."

"You have caused as much damage to your client as you possibly could," Justice Azmat Saeed told JI’s counsel.

JI’s another lawyer Sheikh Ahsan Uddin told the bench that the court has a grave responsibility as “all evidence has been brought forward”.

Justice Khosa remarked that it could be termed as material, not evidence.
