Indus River freezes in Baltistan's intense cold weather

Indus River will remain frozen till the first week February and start melting afterwards.

SKARDU (Dunya News) – Baltistan, the coldest region of country is witnessing intense weather conditions these days that have frozen lakes, waterfalls, streams as well as the Indus River in Skardu’s Kharmang district.



People have started using the thick layer of ice on river Sindh as a path and children have converted it into their playground.




According to the natives, the frozen river has now become a visiting spot where people go and enjoy. Locals also told that the river will remain frozen till the first week February and start melting afterwards.

Intensity of winter goes to its peak in all four districts of Baltistan division in January, creating a lot of problems in the lives of the natives.

Despite this calamity of weather, the inhabitants have not only learnt how to cope with the situation, but they even find ways to enjoy these conditions.




The temperature in upper areas of Balitistan decreases to as low as -25 degree centigrade during these days.
