The newborn was kept near heater in the ICU department, arm got burned due to improper care

LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Though ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit, Ganga Ram Hospital staff probably thought the ‘I’ stood for improper in the acronym as they left a child near the heater in ICU without any care whatsoever, burning the arm in the process leaving it disabled for life.

According to details, the newborn’s arm got burned completely and the doctors have allegedly hinted at cutting off the burnt arm of the child, sparking protests from the parents. They demonstrated outside the hospital, blocking the road burning tyres.

The newborn had been facing problem in breathing and was brought to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where he was shifted to the ICU and the doctors didn’t bother to recheck him there.

Despite the repeated pleas by the parents of the child while he was crying aloud, they were not allowed to visit him and later told them to take the child to Mayo Hospital’s Burns Unit. They also hinted at cutting off the arm of the child.

Parents of the unfortunate child said that it was due to sheer negligence of the doctors and the staff. They said that they were kept in dark despite repeated queries and weren’t allowed to see the child.

Sources told that the worse part of the matter was that while the child was crying as his arm burned with heater, the nurse kept saying that he must be crying due to hunger and didn’t check him even then.
