Mufti Taqi Usmani led funeral prayers of the governor at Sindh Governor House in Karachi.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh governor Justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui on Friday laid to rest at Gizri Graveyard in Karachi.

According to details, Mufti Taqi Usmani led funeral prayers of the governor at Sindh Governor House in Karachi.

The prayers were attended by acting Sindh governor Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Qaim Ali Shah, Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Shahid Baig Mirza, Director General Rangers Mohammad Saeed, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, mayor Karachi, provincial ministers, Arshad Wahra and others.

The 79-year-old died on Wednesday at a private hospital after suffering from chest pain.

Justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui is regarded as the 31st governor of Sindh who sworn in on November 11, 2016.  He was appointed last year after Dr Ishratul Ibad was relieved of his services.

In his recent move as the governor of Sindh, Justice (r) Siddiqui refused to approve Criminal Law (Protection of Minorities) Bill following Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah’s recommendation to revise the language.

Late Zaman also served as 15th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) for nearly six months from July 1, 1999 to January 26, 2000.

Prior to assuming office of CJP, he had served as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Sindh High Court (SHC) from November 5, 1990 to May 21, 1992.

Besides this, he served as a member of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and as Chairman of Sindh Zakat Council and Chairman of Rule Committee of SHC in his career.

Born in Lucknow of British India, late Saeed uz-Zaman Siddiqui educated himself at University of Dhaka.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain had expressed sorrow over the demise while leaders of various political parties had also acknowledged his contribution to national politics in his career.
