ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Spokesperson for the Prime Minister House on Saturday has announced arrest of five terrorists who were involved in blast in district court in Mardan on September 2 that claimed at least 14 lives.

In a statement issued in the evening today, it was reported by the Prime Minister House that at least four major terror bids were foiled as five militants were nabbed by security agencies who were revealed to have played roles in Mardan attack.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appreciated efforts of intelligence and security agencies in coping the militants.

A terrorist had attempted to enter the court on September 2 in before noon hours when a security guard resisted his movement prompting him to open fire as he ran inside the installment. Retaliating to the gunfire, the policeman, not knowingly, hit the suicide vest that he had strapped on.

The resultant blast claimed at least 14 lives and injured over 30 persons who were shifted to different hospital, mainly Mardan Medical Complex.

Chief of the Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif visited the hospitalized in the complex along with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak.

The bomber was carrying around eight kilograms of explosives in his vest. The casualties included two policemen, lawyers and clerks.

The attack on district court came over a month after at least 70 lawyers were killed in a suicide blast in Civil Hospital of Quetta following the killing of Balochistan Bar Association by unidentified men earlier that day.
