High blood pressure, high cholesterol level and stress identified as key factors.

(Web Desk) - Pakistan has one of the highest risks of coronary heart diseases (CHDs) in the world. Approximately 0.2 million people die due to CHDs, constituting 30 to 40% of all deaths.

Doctors have identified high blood pressure and high cholesterol level as the root causes of cardiac diseases. They recommend people to adopt healthy lifestyles so as to deal with the high risk of developing heart diseases.

A major concern has arisen over the ever increasing incidence of heart diseases among the youth which the doctors attribute to negligence and lack of awareness. It can also be genetic but, as the doctors say, our habits are prime factors.

Apart from the well-identified root causes, stress is also accredited for the development of CHDs. Lack of sleep, excessive smoking, consumption of junk food, and increasing body weights due to lack of exercise are also major reasons behind the significant increase in the number of patients.

Along with taking adequate sleep and exercising, nutritionists recommend the use of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Common coronary heart diseases include angina, myocardial infarction, and sudden cardiac arrest.
