Waseem Akhtar will be brought from jail to the Polo Ground for the oath taking ceremony.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - District and Sessions court has passed orders on Monday for imprisoned mayor-elect Waseem Akhtar to be brought from jail to the Polo Ground for the oath-taking ceremony but the prospects are dim as Election Commission has not issued notification of his success until Tuesday morning.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has expressed concern and asked the Election Commission to issue notification of Waseem Akhtar success.

Meanwhile, two separate petitions calling for Waseem Akhtar to be barred from taking oath of office of Karachi mayor were filed with the Supreme Court and Sindh High Court on Monday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda on Monday filed an application in the Sindh High Court to bar Waseem Akhtar from taking oath as Karachi Mayor.

Vawda made Waseem Akhtar and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as party in his application and adopted the stance that Waseem Akhtar has been involved in over 30 cases including the one regarding May 12 riots, rebellion, terrorism, facilitation and others.

It was stated in the application that Waseem Akhtar was behind bars as his bail regarding the case on facilitating the terrorists was dismissed therefore the court was requested to bar the MQM leader from taking oath as Karachi Mayor.

The hearing of Vawda’s application is expected to take place today (Tuesday).
