PML-N's Masood Khan takes oath as new AJK President

MUZAFFARABAD (Dunay News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N) leader and ex-diplomat Masood Khan has taken oath as new president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, reported on Thursday.

According to details, the members of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly were also present on the occasion while the newly-elected president also received ‘Guard of Honors’.

Masood Khan secured 42 votes defeating Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Chaudhry Latif Akbar who only managed to take six votes.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muslim Conference boycotted the election.

Earlier, Masood Khan thanked PM Nawaz Sharif for nominating him as PML-N’s candidate for the office of President Azad Kashmir.

Expressing gratitude, Masood Khan said that he would work for the well-being and betterment of the people of Azad Kashmir and would help in highlighting the just freedom cause of occupied Kashmir.

AJK Assembly had also appointed PML-N’s Raja Farooq Haidar Khan as new Prime Minister while former president Sardar Yaqub Khan also administered oath to as many as nine members of AJK cabinet.

Further, PML-N had secured a thumping victory in the AJK elections as they won 33 out of 41 seats whereas Muslim Conference (MC) stood second with three seats.

PPP and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) only won only two seats each whereas Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) secured just one seat.
