'Solar kids' treatment initiated at PIMS

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Treatment of ‘solar kids’ has been initiated in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) due to efforts of Dunya News, reported Tuesday.

An eight-member board of experienced medics will conduct tests of the children who hail from Quetta. The board is headed by Vice Chancellor of PIMS, Dr Javed Akram.

The board comprises of medics that specialize in radiology, neurology and other medical disciplines.

The doctors will take expertise of foreign medics if need be to treat the ‘solar kids’.

Three children, belonging to Quetta’s Mian Ghundi area seem to be active and full of life during the day however, as soon as the sun sets their bodies start to become ‘dysfunctional’ and they appear ‘half dead’.

Earlier Dunya News shifted the children to Lahore for their treatment and vowed to bear their expenses.

Government that was unaware of the situation before Dunya News highlighted the issue had then offered treatment of the children at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
