PTI chief asked why he is being stopped from election campaign when he doesn't hold any office

KARACHI (Dunya News) – In joint rally with Jamaat Islami (JI), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan lashed out at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) once again on Saturday, saying that stopping party chairman from election campaign is dictatorship and not democracy.

Khan said two cases have already been registered and that it seems a third First Information Report (FIR) is in order. He said the ECP is destroying democracy.

Addressing the campaign rally at Shahra-e-Faisal, PTI chief asked why he is being stopped from election campaign when he doesn’t hold any office.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a package of Rs 40 billion, did anyone stop him?” he asked. “Was ECP asleep when PM Nawaz announced Rs 2.5 billion package in Lodhran and Benazir Income Support cards were distributed in NA-122?”

He said ECP should name one country where a party chairman is stopped form going into his people. The PTI chief said that peace will restore in Karachi and Pakistan will progress with everyone coming together.

Imran Khan said only those can bring peace in Karachi who can improve the policing and law enforcement system. Criticising Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he said he witnessed an MQM rally for the first time, adding that MQM faces the threat of ‘minus one’ from within and not from outside.

Addressing the same rally, Jamaat chief Sirajul Haq said that December 5 is the day of both the ‘revolution’ and ‘change’. He said it appears a new Karachi is coming into existence, calling on the people to vote against ‘corrupt mafia’ and ‘status quo’ on December 5.

Sirajul Haq said his party will make Karachi a beautiful city like Istanbul “because Karachi has suffered enough in past 30 years.”
“Today is the flood of youngsters’ passion”, he said, adding that citizens will be given rights at their door steps.

The PTI chief ended the rally at New M.A. Jinnah Road after seeing the number of participants reducing while Jamaat’s rally went onwards to the Mazaar-e-Quaid.

Imran Khan addressed the participants once again at this point and said people said Karachi’s mayor should be one of them. “Aren’t I one of you?” he asked, adding that he isn’t a foreign national and carries only the Pakistani passport.

He said there will be no need of Rangers in the city if the police become apolitical.
