Sahiwal coal power project would complete in 2017, vows Punjab CM

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif on Friday has said that power projects are under speedy construction to curb energy crisis in Pakistan.

The Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting in the provincial capital.

Shahbaz said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government would not compromise over transparency and fair allocation of funds in the projects.

The meeting reviewed progress of different power and infrastructure projects that were under construction. The CM said that Sahiwal coal power project would complete in 2017. The project would add at least 3,600 Mega Watt (MW) electricity to the national grid, he added.

It should be mentioned here that Sahiwal plant would function on gas whereas Pakistan has collaborated with Russia for a gas project. The North-South gas pipeline would make possible smooth supply of gas from Karachi to Lahore.

Shahbaz said that the government saved at least 110 billion rupees by maintaining transparency in different gas projects.

The CM lauded efforts of the administration and said that no previous government saved as much national resources as PML-N. He reassured that the government would never compromise on fairness in the projects that are on the floor or those in pipeline.

Earlier this month, the CM had stressed completion of maximum energy projects that are under construction until end of 2017. He said that that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has ordered to speed up the underway projects and has taken sincere measures for the benefit of citizens.

The CM further said that billions of rupees of funds have been allocated to better infrastructure of the province. On November 23, Shahbaz had briefed PM Nawaz over law and order situation in Punjab.

The briefing was held in PML-N’s Model Town office. Nawaz Sharif said on the occasion that he was thankful to the people of Punjab for magnificent victory in the local body elections. He said that more efforts are needed to be put in to maintain results in the next phase of the local body (LB) polls and also the General Elections 2018.
