ECP has proved that it is not an independent institute: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday in a video message that the Local Bodies’ (LB) election should be held under the supervision of army. He said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has proved that it is not an independent institute, reported Dunya News.

According to the details, Imran Khan said in his video message that all political parties agree that the election was rigged and police helped Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) to win the election. He said that one soldier should be inside the polling station and one outside during the polls. He declared that according to PTI, ECP has miserably failed.

Talking about Lodhran, he said that nowhere in the civilized world an active PM interferes in the election process as Nawaz Sharif did by announcing the Kissan Package just before the LB polls. He complained about ECP that overseas Pakistanis cannot practice their right to vote. He demanded that everyone should be given the right to vote. He said that PTI will keep struggling to make overseas Pakistanis get the right to vote and in next election they will be able to practice their right to vote.

In a fresh notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday, by-election in NA-154 constituency of Lodhran will be held on December 23 this year.

As per schedule, Returning Officer will receive nomination papers by the candidates between November 19 and 20. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on November 26 and 27.

Last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officer regarding rejection or acceptance of nomination papers to be submitted on November 30.

Moreover, revised list of the candidates will be published on December 8 and polling will be conducted on December 23, 2015.
The notification was issued after Supreme Court’s October 28 verdict in which the apex ended stay on conducting of re-election in NA-154 constituency of Lodhran and lifted restriction on PML-N candidate Siddique Baloch to contest the by-election.

Baloch, who won 2013 election as an independent candidate and later joined the PML-N, was de-seated and barred for lifetime from contesting elections by the Multan election tribunal on August 26 over possession of fake degree. His victory was challenged by runner-up candidate Jahangir Tareen.
