KARACHI (Dunya News) – Teachers belonging to downtown Sindh on Thursday have ended protest outside Chief Minister (CM) House on assurance of Education Additional Secretary to meet their demands.

The authorities have vowed to solve issue of 300 job terminations and to give permanent jobs to contract-based teachers within a week. The Additional Secretary has also assured to take action in pending postings matter until November 30.

The government body concerned has asked educational institutes’ administrations to provide list of names which are to be considered for permanent jobs.

Earlier on November 25, protesters had marched towards the CM House. However, police used water canon to disperse them as they reached Fawara Chowk. Irked teachers stoned police personnel and water cannon.

However, police then baton charged the protesters. The clash at Fawara Chowk left window panes of several vehicles in pieces. Police had sealed the roads towards the CM House by placing containers.

Several teachers were detained by the police for staging resistance. However, teachers did not budge and reached the CM House to record protest.

Teachers leading the protest said that they called demonstrations off after their detained colleagues were freed and Additional Secretary forwarded a workable proposal.

Earlier it was reported that the demands of the protesters included replacement of Secretary Education, growth opportunities and restoration of children’s quota.

The shelling from the police’s side knocked several demonstrators unconscious, yet most people managed to reach the CM House where they staged a sit-in protest.
