JI chief demands to enhance compensation money for quake victims

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Chief of Jamaat Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq on Wednesday has urged the incumbent federal and provincial governments to enhance the compensation money for earthquake victims as no house can be rebuilt with only Rs 1.20 lac.

Talking to newsmen in Peshawar, Siraj-ul-Haq said that the money announced for affectees is insufficient, therefore, the authorities should mull the money after conducting a money.

JI chief told that as many as 271 people were died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 5,543 houses were completely demolished, 8,543 houses faced partial damage whereas at least 920 animals were also killed in recent earthquake on October 26.

He said that 4,520 volunteers of Al-Khidmat foundation are busy in rescue activities along with Pakistan Army personnel.

He stated that JI is with the quake sufferers as the party has dispatched camps worth Rs 47 lac, food package of Rs 16 lac and Rs 10 lac was served for other relief activities.

Siraj-ul-Haq requested the nation to come forward and assist the affectees with food items, blankets, warm clothes and camps.

He further asked the authorities to give relief money as early as possible whereas he also announced to hold repentance day on October 30.

Relief agencies are battling to reach cold and hungry survivors of a devastating earthquake that has killed more than 250 and injured over 1,600, with authorities fearing the death toll could climb with time.

Desperate victims appealed for aid after Monday s 8.1 magnitude quake ripped through the region, destroying thousands of homes, triggering landslides and stampedes, and knocking out communication lines.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has pledged compensation for those whose homes have been destroyed during a trip to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has seen the bulk of the casualties so far.
